When planning your wedding it is all in the details - and here are a few wedding tips when planning to get married in Mauritius.

TIP 1
Ensure you cross all your T's and dot all your I's, to ensure that your civil marriage procedure is in order.

October is one of the best months of the year to get married in Mauritius. It has the lowest rainfall figures and pretty near perfect temperatures AND the highest sunlight figures.

Check to make sure you are the only wedding happening on your resort on that day. This is your big day after all.

Do not rush the planning process, you need at least 6 weeks to organise a wedding in Mauritius but the best advice we could give is to allow yourself at least 6 months to prepare for every eventuality.

All weddings in Mauritius will be conducted in English - unless previously requested.

If you have been divorced longer than 10 months you will need a copy of your decree absolute.
TIP 12
You will need two witnesses over the age of 18 years.

Organise travel and medical insurance, always be prepared.

Gather all your documents:

Copies of birth certificates dated within 3 months of the wedding date.

Copies of passports.

If divorced, a copy of decree absolute.

Deed Poll (if a change of name has occurred)

A death certificate and previous marriage certificate if widowed.

Non-English documentation must be translated into English and duly stamped.

You will also need to take two passport photos each with you to Mauritius.

Is my wedding legal?
Yes. You will need to take your marriage certificate to home affairs upon your return so that is can be registered in your country.

Can I choose what religion to get married into?
Weddings in Mauritius are not religious ceremonies. You will be married by a civil status officer.

Can I choose my cake and flowers before I go to Mauritius?
This is normally arranged once you arrive in Mauritius, however, should you have anything in mind, please email the pictures to the hotel to see if they can assist you and if there will be any extra charge.

What happens if it rains?
Alternative arrangements will be made. Each hotel has various options of venues to get married at with some being undercover.

Does the bride get an extra room to change in on the wedding day?
This all depends on the availability of the hotel.

What time will my wedding take place?
This all depends on when the Civil Status Officer can get to the hotel. It is normally anytime from 16:00 pm.

Can we let doves go during the ceremony?
You will need to ask the resort you will be staying at if they can assist, and if there is any extra charge for that.

What music will be played at the ceremony?
it is recommended that you bring a CD with your choice of music.
